My son-in-law was just informed his cholesterol level is at 570. I don't know what his good cholesterol numbers are or anything else concerning this. They are guessing this is genetic because he is Filipino, and from what I'm understanding, this is a common issue with them. I know he eats a lot of fast foods, so this is probably contributing a lot to the problem. His doctor has him on meds now, but I've heard cholesterol meds is as bad as having the high cholesterol. What can be done to lower the cholesterol naturally along with diet change and exercise? I've been reading about niacin, but I'm not sure what to advise him as far as taking this as it sounds this can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. What types of supplements would help with lowering cholesterol? TIA.
