From my understanding when looking at genes and hormones, cholesterol is manufactured in the body all by itself - we do not need it in the diet in order to synthesise hormones.
What type of cholesterol the body makes itself, whether HDL or LDL i'm not sure on that.
This info came as a surprise to me as i thought we needed to obtain it in the diet in order to make hormones.
Of course, how well a person makes their own cholesterol for hormone production i would imagine varies greatly - depending on genetics and various other factors.
