Is it ethical for me to own a cat?

I'd like to own a cat but I have trouble with the ethics. I live in a tower block, and it would be a house cat, so it would have its freedom curtailed. However, my thinking is that it's better for the cat than living in an animal rescue place. At least it wouldn't be in a cage...

What do others think? I would get a cat from a rescue centre and I would care for it well. Tweet
