Re: Albendazole Safety Question
I have/had bird mites from visiting an overgrown wild bird colonised porch....for over four years.
I did 400mg doses daily for at least five months last year.
I had no problems of any kind. My liver has been tested and is healthy. I have had blood tests and no problems showed up.
(the first six weeks I herxed intensely and thought I was going to die)
I have mentioned here before, that my dog was also on Albendazole and he did develop leukemia.
He is a 5kg pomeranian.
This caused me to stop taking the Albendazole though I was not totally cured. I still had some mites in the skin on the top of my feet. This area seems to be low in both pores and blood supply. I moved to topical and soaking with Ammonia or washing soda in gumboots daily for the past three months.
I share this to provide a message of caution regarding dose size.
In hindsight and in my experience the 400mg dose daily seems safe.
My thoughts are that after it is necessary to treat with Albendazole or a much longer time than most of us realise. Perhaps a year.
Weekly doses could be considered once a sense of being cured or almost cured happens.
I will be taking 3 days of Moxidectin every six months for life after this nightmare.
The leukemia in my little dog could have been
...1. dose related or....... 2. a response due to him having some Spitz bloodline.
(He has had chemo and is now very very well on small doses of steroids.) I am now treating him topically only with Advocate weekly. He is under vet care.
PS I dont know for sure if my feet are clear as I have nerve damage to them that causes pinprick sensations when standing still after walking.
