My experience with UC and remission.

This website helped me a lot in the past 10 years and I thought I should post my experience with UC for others to benefit too.

I had UC since 2003 so its been 12 years living with this condition, currently I'm in remission (and I hope I stay that way :)), so this is what I went through during this time.

- I took UC medicine in the first two years only, I realized it is not helping so I stopped them for good and decided to look for alternative medicine.

- I did try A LOT of herbs and diets and I don't think anything have helped except the Sheldon's vitamin E enemas, they didn't put me into remission but at least they reduced the bleeding to a bearable degree, also I took Pro biotic pills and they reduced the cramps and diarrhea to a lesser degree but they also didn't put me into remission.

- I stayed away from greasy, fatty and chilli foods, they are my worst nightmare.

- Whenever I feel I'm going into a flareup I immediately change my diet to chicken/veg. soup, few fruits, vegetables and biscuits, I keep this diet for 2 to three days till the flareup starts to fade away.

- Two years ago I started drinking a large glass of low fat yoghurt every day before sleeping, I found that it helps regulate my bowel movements and that means less diarrhea and less constipation, and now I have (almost) regular bowel movement.

So right now a glass of low fat yoghurt is my daily driver and keeps me in remission, but of course I still have a sensible diet and no hot chilli or greasy foods (well maybe a bit of greasy burger or steak every now and then).

But notice that the yoghurt took time help stabilize my condition so don't expect results from day one.

I hope that helped you.
