20 years sufferer, my success and failure treatments.
After 20 years fighting scalp folliculitis, here's what works and doesn't for me.
Recently....
After cracking a molar, and getting it removed, the dentist put me on an ibuprofen type medicine for a week or so (anti-inflammatory), and hey presto, amazingly my infected areas disappeared! 3 weeks later, and taking ibuprofen 400mg twice a day, I'm still 100% clear, amazingly!
I also use isopropyl wipes 3-4 times a day (buy in batches of 1000 off Ebay), these are essential. NOTE - DON'T USE TOO MUCH, OR IT DOESN'T WORK. A PRE INJECTION SWAB IS PERFECT, AS IT EVAPORATES IMMEDIATELY. IF IT DOESN'T EVAPORATE IMMEDIATELY, THERE'S TOO MUCH LIQUID, DON'T DROWN YOUR HEAD.
Apparently the quickly evaporating alcohol also lifts the bacteria (I've read, and it seems to make sense from my experience).
BY JUST THE IBUPROFEN AND THESE TINY WIPES, I'M CURRENTLY 100% CLEAR.
Things that have helped (but don't clear it up completely) are:
Shave head and isopropyl wipe, daily.
Oregano oil (the best for me)
Lemongrass Oil
Lemon Oil
Coriander Bark (not leaf) oil, heavily diluted with a carrier oil
Virgin Coconut Oil
SHORT/SHAVED HAIR - keep it as short as possible, huge help. I recommend shaving, get control, then think about growing again. This has worked for me.
Bleaching Hair - has worked well for many years. Not a cure, but a huge help

Communicating with other long term sufferers, and not doctors. Medical
Science still doesn't understand our problem. Listen to other peoples' experience, invaluable.
When I use oils, I rotate them, and it seems to help (if they're too strong for your skin, dilute with carrier oil)
Things that didn't work:
Antibiotics - don't kill your liver, get off them ASAP, if they don't clear up your problem initially.
MORE
Antibiotics - Upping your dose while the problem worsens.
DOCTOR CONSULTATIONS - Brainwashed into believing only medicine works, not interested in essential oils etc., although oils work much better than long term
Antibiotics (for me), although they don't always clear up my spots/swelling.
Cutting/Adding certain foods - no magic formulas for me.
