Saywhatagain, I think one of the best verses to proves Jesus is God is Isaiah 9:6:


6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

But of course, that is not Jesus saying that directly himself but I believe He inspired all of the scriptures, including that one.

Isaiah 10:33 says, The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”

You would think, if Jesus was just a great moral teacher, he would have said, "oh no, you have misunderstood me, I am not making myself God" but he did not do that.

And like you said, in John 8:58, Jesus said "Before Abraham was, I AM" which was the personal name of Israel's God that was revealed to Moses (Exodus 3:14, And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you).

Jesus maybe didn't say directly the words "I am God" but he said it in so many other ways. And the Jews understood what he was saying and that's why they wanted to kill him.
