Leonard Nimoy Dies of COPD 30 Years After Quitting Smoking
Leonard Nimoy stated "I am not Spock, but if I could choose another person to be, I would choose Spock." On November 27th, 2015 Nimoy descended into the stars to finally stand by the Angels who would always call him Spock.
The cause of his death was listed as end stage Coronary Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, COPD. Even though he followed his grandfather's advice to give up smoking now, it was not soon enough. He had given up smoking 30 years ago. Yes, 30 years ago he sought to be healthier and it was not soon enough.
One week ago he was admitted to the hospital for severe chest pains and released. He died Friday Morning in his Bel Air home. The news shocked the world and some of his star trek friends mourned him on Twitter.
"I loved him like a brother. We will all miss his humor, his talent, and his capacity to love." -William Shatner
"We return you now to the stars, Leonard. You taught us to 'Live Long And Prosper,' and you indeed did, friend," Takei wrote.
