Re: No Such Thing as Christian Gnosticism
I don't know anything about gnosticism so I can't really comment but I have one comment on this:
'Christianity asserts that there is one source of Truth and that is the Bible, the inspired, inerrant Word of the living God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice (John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 4:12)'
If we are to believe this statement, then that would mean that when Jesus was actually alive and teaching on Earth in the flesh, that was not truth He was preaching it only became truth when it was put into a book and named the Bible. I know that is not what you actually mean, but I'm just saying that is what your statement says. So if you don't mean that, then don't say it. There is indeed only one source of truth and that is God, which exists in three forms the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. The Bible is inspired by these three entities, therefore it contains truth, but it is not the Source of truth. You can say, it is the most reliable source of truth that we have available in our current time, that is a much more realistic statement. Christ is the Word. Christ is the Way and the Truth and the Life, not the Bible. The Bible is the place that many people meet Christ and so in some sense we can equate the Bible to Christ Himself, because at it's core that is what the Bible is. The Bible is where we meet Christ, but it is the Christ that is the source, not the other way around.
