I know what you mean about that voice.  I didn't think I was going to be able to listen to it either at first because of it.  I can't understand some of the sentences, but I found that I could understand most of it and the part that I could understand just made me keep listening.  It was like finding a gem.  If you just listened to the first one you didn't really get to the meat of it.  They just kept getting better.  I would like to get the book someday too.  I'm sure I will get even more out of the book because the voice on the tapes made me miss parts.
