But I don't think that in Mrs. Patmore's day they destryed the lens and inserted plastic. Does anyone know what they did in cataract surgery in the early 20th century (timefram for Downton Abbey)? My GP told me that cataract surgery is one of the oldest surgeries, done thousands of years ago in India, when they would carefully * remove * the cataract from the eye.
