Alpha Lipoic Acid doesn't chelate?

I've read from several sources that ALA is the best--if not only-- chelator for removing mercury from the brain. However, I stumbled across a troubling mouse study, in which ALA was tested as a mercury chelator, and it did nothing to remove mercury from the brain, nor the kidneys. Can anyone explain why this is? Is there really NOTHING to remove mercury from the brain?
