Can't drink reverse osmosis water, help!

My family got a reverse osmosis water filter about a year and a half ago. The rest of my family (and dog) drink it just fine but for me it's a whole other ball field.

I started drinking it along with everyone else and after a week I started to notice that I constantly had 'cottonmouth' I could not seem to get enough water to make my mouth not dry. After another week my lips started to peel and crack which happens when I get dehydrated. Then the part that freaked me out the most is that my urine turned a very dark yellow. No matter how much water I drank would not go away.

During that second week I started to panic because I felt so dry, my thirst could not be quenched and my urine color was freaking me out. I got a glass of straight tap water and downed the whole thing, it cured my 'cottonmouth'! I kept drinking it and my urine turned a very pale yellow that is normal for me when hydrated and eventually my lips started to heal.

It also has a very strong metallic taste when I drink it, no one else in my family tastes metal. It's like I have pennies in my mouth.

I do not like drinking the tap water as I know how bad it is and I'm noticing my teeth are starting to be affected by it (I'm assuming the flouride!).

Any ideas why I had such a reaction to this water? I have a similar reaction with distilled water as well, just not as bad.

What can I do? Is there something I can add to the RO water so that I can drink it?
