Help needed understanding alternative treatments for depressive illnesses

Hi! My name is Chris Holman. I am a fourth year Pharmacy student studying at the University of Brighton in the UK. As part of my Neurohormones module, which is focusing on the causes and treatments of depressive illnesses at the moment, we have been set the task of looking for non-pharmacological, non-conventional treatments of depression. The idea is that we also have to try and find clinical evidence for efficacy, although I am also looking for personal experiences of alternatives as well. St John's Wort is considered a pharmacological treatment as it acts as an SSRI (similar to Fluoxetine(Prozac) and Paroxetine(Seroxat)).

I would be truly grateful if you could tell me the treatments that you find helpful and if you have come across or been told about any trials of these treatments. I am hoping to do my dissertation in this area so your expertise would be valued!

Many thanks,

Chris Holman
