cholesterol, statins, and depression

I hope that those who are experiencing Depression will question the use of statins to control cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is essential for brain health. Blood levels of cholesterol below 180 result in a higher incidence of Depression (and suicide). Many people who artificially lower their cholesterol levels with statin drugs report depression, memory loss, and other cognitive impairment. Whether statins are used or not, levels of cholesterol below 180 should be considered a suspect in cases of depression.
