Day 19 - Breaking today - Detailed account of my entire fast
Alright, so today is day 19 and i have broken my fast.
-32 year old male
-Have done about 10 fasts mostly in the 3-4 day range, (1) 8 day fast.
-Initiated fast to rid myself of bad food, drink, and substance habits that i developed in the last few years.
-Drank distilled water with (1) bottle of Fiji spring water every 2-3 days.
-Went to gym 2 out of every 3 days and walked on treadmill, did very very light resistance training(1-2 exercises per muscle group at about 40% of normal weight i would do), sat in sauna for 10-20 minutes.
-Used enema every other day.
-Sun bathed every 3-4 days for about an hour.
-Got (2) deep tissue massages. (1) on day 10 and (1) on day 17.
Beginning weight 240lbs
Finished weight - 216.4lbs
Total weight loss = 23.6lbs
-How i broke my fast:
I got a bottle of Kombucha with coconut water. I know this is slightly acidic but no more than an orange and i thought it would be very beneficial to put in a nice layer of 4 probiotic strains in my fresh belly. it was all organic, non gmo, no sugar, kombucha with only 10 calories per bottle.(i have never heard of breaking a fast with kombucha tea but the probiotic aspect seemed like an intuitively positive thing for my gut).
about an hour later i got an organic orange and sucked the juice right out of it.
At this point i was anticipated having to immediately use the bathroom because in all previous fasts as soon as any calories hit my stomach i was running for the toilet but this never happened.
About 45minutes after the juice of an orange i indulged on an organic Meejool date.
About an hour after that i had an actual orange.
I have had almost no gastrointestinal discomfort at all; some slight rumblings but no pain and no rushing to the bathroom.
I have just processed the juice of 1/4 watermelon, (1) orange, (6) strawberries, (4) guavas, and a 1inch long hunk of ginger root. this yielded about 2 cups of fruit juice(mostly all watermelon). I will dilute that in a gallon of distilled water and sip on that rest of day. Tomorrow morning i will drink that concoction and then later in the day i will boil a head of cabbage in water and eat some of that. Once i start eating more solid fruits and veggies i will make sure to take probiotics in order to reestablish a healthy colony in my stomach.
Effects and random notes about my fast:
-The first 4-5 days were terrible with cravings...i wanted everything and anything that i saw on TV or smelled in my house or driving down the street. Your smell is enhanced so much that i could smell a fast food restaurant before i could see it.
-I craved food until day 16. not as much as when i started but i still craved food.
-My nerves were extremely sensitive the first 4-5 days. If there was a loud noise on TV or if someone in my house slammed a door and it caught me off guard i would get shivers from my head to my toes.
-I was extremely cold at night and in the morning. I highly recommend fasting during summer months as it is far easier than during winter. I was literally wearing a hoodie outside in 80+ degree weather. this is most normal and to be expected.
-I had 1-2 bowel movements per day and that was even on days that i did not use an enema. the first 7-8 days it was yellow and mucousy but the last 10 days it was long and dark strings of who-knows-what. i used an enema on day 17 and it came out totally clear.
-My urine was dark yellow in morning, light yellow to almost light brown during day.
-Tongue was coated white entire time. It started clearing up around day 15.
-I didnt seem to suffer from the bad taste in my mouth. It was really bad for a few random hours per day but nothing prolonged. I brushed my teeth only twice the entire fast. It seems like those who brushed everyday seem to suffer most from the bad taste. I refuse to use toothpaste while fasting.
-I showered everyday, i did use natural soap and shampoo every few days but on the others it was just hot water and a cloth to remove dead skin.
-I seem to have lost little, if any, muscle. My muscles look smaller but that is likely due to not retaining water. I did pushups until muscle failure this morning and i can do exactly the same as before the fast.
-My hair seems fuller and overall more healthy. my nails are growing like crazy. my skin is super soft and oddly my socks could barely stay on because of how soft the bottom of my feet are; they would literally slip right off as i put on my shoes.
-I stretched everyday and my flexibility has increased by at least 20%...my legs can stretch like 4-6 inched further than prior to fast.
-I had shoulder pain to the point where i could hardly raise my arm to my head and that totally disappeared by day 8.
-My eyes are whiter than they have ever been.
-My teeth are whiter than they have been since i was a teenager.
-My sleep schedule was all over the place. First few day i was asleep by 10pm and up at 6am. as the fast progressed i was needing less and less sleep. Sometimes i would not fall asleep until 4 or 5am and up by 8:30am. Sometimes i was up until 5am and sleep until 1pm. basically i slept when tired and awoke when rested(i know this isn't practical for most but i am not working during this fast so i was able to be flexible with that).
-Not 1 person knew i was fasting even with all the weight i lost. odd because i live with 4 family members who for almost 3 weeks didnt notice that i just sat with them at dinner without eating. i attribute this to maintaining my normal appearance. i made sure to take off my hoodie when i saw them(wearing a hoodie when it's 93 outside is a sure way for people to ask questions).
-My mood became quite positive after 10 days. I pretty much locked myself in my room in the beginning but became more talkative and just overall happier with my life situation. Fasting really does wonders for depressed state of mind.
Alright, well that's about it unless i remember some other pertinent details. Much thanks to Magnesiumoxide and MissCherie for sharing the ride with my.
Oh yeah, i am not religious but i believe this to be important.
“Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 17“But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face 18so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you."
