Which way the stirring is going depends on what way you are observing it,

Take a blank piece of paper and draw a spiral with arrows pointing clockwise. Looking down on it shows clockwise. Hold the paper up and observe from the bottom the spiral appears counter clockwise.

How could I be sure which way my stirring rod goes?
