Baptism of the Holy Spirit is essential for salvation
It think we are arguing on semantics, which is kind of a waste of time.
You said "Having said that, I do believe that when one becomes born again they do receive the Holy Spirit, but it is not referred to as the baptism of the Holy Spirit". Well we are just arguing on semantics as far as is receiving the Holy Spirit the same thing as the baptism of the Holy Spirit? I do think it is the same thing but we can't argue it just based on scripture because it is all about what the individual interprets.
"I believe the Holy Spirit is even with the unsaved to some degree. It is the Holy Spirit that convicts men whether saved or not."
Yes, I agree, the Holy Spirit is there to guide anyone, it is just a matter of how much we are willing to listen to the guidance.
"The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not given to us for our salvation. That is no where in the Bible."
The Bible doesn't say specifically the baptism of the Holy Spirit but in what Refreshed posted:
"He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,"
So it says Jesus saved us by using the power of the Holy Spirit. In my view, this is exactly the same as baptism by the Holy Spirit, but regardless if you call it the baptism or just receiving the Holy Spirit, it obviously plays an important role in our salvation. There are many scriptures that back this up. And yes, thanks Refreshed for posting all of those.
