Is Iodine useful after thyroidectomy?

Is Iodine useful after a thyroidectomy or can it be harmful?

My dad (67 years old) had Graves disease (Morbus Basedow) and a thyroidectomy in 2004.

He is taking a T3+T4 combo but he is not feeling good. He is also taking Selenium, vitamin D and a B-complex + B12 and Chlorella.

He is very overweight (almost 300 pounds) since the thyroidectomy, he has edemas in his feet and hands/arms etc. and he is quite depressed.

Could Iodine help him? Please help, thanks.
