Re: Gaining weight after quitting smoking, despite mostly healthy lifestyle

What is he eating? Not eating a lot doesn't mean he's not eating fatty foods. Small amounts of fatty foods do more damage than it looks. And unhealthy foods hug your belly with weight. Also, alcohol. Alcohol gives you that belly weight. And is VERY high in calories. And sugar. Cut back on sugar. And make sure to do aerobics for 30 minutes a day. Cardio. That's how you get rid of that areas fat. Building muscle creates what burns more calories, but to lose he bulge around the belly you need to be doing cardio for 30 to an hour a day. And eating right. Also, quitting smoking slows your metabolism. Not by much. But, eating or drinking more drinks than you may have instead of having a smoke, that's where the weight comes from. Have him wait the time out, go online for support groups, go to smoking cessation groups that meet in person, or talk to a doctor to learn ways and new habits that stop him from reaching for food or sodas and juices instead of a cigarette. Carry a big water bottle full of 3 tablespoons of lime in it throughout the day and when craving a cigarette drink some of it. Bananas help with the withdrawal. And after the first few months the weight goes away. You just need to separate the old habit of doing something however often throughout the day from eating or another choice that may not be too healthy. Try a rubber and around the wrist. The smoking isn't a magic pill to a thinner life. It's the habit of smoking that when it isn't there causes us to reach for food or whatnot to cure that craving. His passes, and changing this before it becomes habit makes it fall off much faster. Also, ask him wait for the weight to come off and work a little harder now, or lose out on health because your being a bit vain right now? It doesn't add up. Give plenty of encouragement! And remind this person of what happens to the body two months after, six months after, a year, five years.... How the body rebuilds. It's something to work towards.
