Something else for the naysayers!
I recently finished my first fast of five days. Being the first time, I wanted to get a baseline of how my body reacted to the cleanse. Thank you all so much for the wonderful advice and stories posted. They kept me motivated and convinced I was doing something good for myself.
Like many of you, I kept my participation quiet because I knew there were many people in my life who are skeptical and vocal about it. Lots of eye rolling, as you can imagine. But after completing the five days, I couldn't wait to shout out how wonderful it was!
I personally did have one concern and wanted to share the results. Most of us, if not all, are savvy enough to know that the body will go into starvation mode when we dip under 1200 calories. I was careful to keep enough syrup in my drinks to reach that number, or at least as close as I could. I made an appointment at my gym for three days after I completed the fast to get a full body composition (body weight, fat percentage, etc.)
Imagine me so pleasantly surprised to see the results! However, the most important one to me was the best news. I was hoping that the cleanse would not touch the lean body mass I had and just focus on the fat. And guess what? That's exactly what happened! My lean body mass was virtually untouched, while the fat percentage had gone down 2%!!!
So, the moral of my story (thanks for reading. I didn't think it was going to take this long!) is if you have people in your life who are concerned you are hurting yourself, I'm proof that the cleanse does not touch the good stuff, only the bad. And if you have access to someone (most gyms have this service) who can do a body composition, I would highly recommend it. It's such a great motivator to see what a gift you are giving yourself and know that all the baddies are being washed away!
I'm off this weekend for an extended trip, but am looking forward to coming back here in August and doing this again. Can't wait to read how you all are doing.
Keep up the good work and Happy Fasting!
