Soaking grains without sprouting them

There is the brand, handy pantry, I believe, at some healthh food shoppes. They have hard red wheat or some kind, and barley (has a hull on it). They are for sprouting. I am not really interested in sprouting at the moment, more interested in just soaking and eating. I've read some of them can be eaten after soaking just a few hours. Which ones? And after soaking, would the hull just come off barley,or?
