Sota SP output

I noticed while pulsing with Sota SP that the intensity noticeable subsides after the battery begins to drain (a fresh battery instantly produces full strength again).
Since the unit has constant-voltage output I assume the current is declining as the battery drains.

Isn't the current density critical for results?
