You are on the right track. Goiters are indeed caused by Iodine deficiency. So too are fibrocystic breast disease, ovary cysts, uterus fibroids/cysts/endo and related cancers.

The recommended Iodine test is the Urine Loading test, and is the only method to accurately measure for Iodine deficiency:

We know you are deficient because you have a goiter, so there is no point in testing at this time.

You CANNOT take iodine without the required co-supplements, especially selenium. Iodine without selenium is very likely to cause Hashimotos.
