Im not sure I follow your question? What do you mean by the 'folate' vs 'folic acid' issue?
Are you referring to the synthetic form VS natural form? Many supplements use synthetic forms of vitamins. In many cases they work just as well as the natural thing (ie like ascorbic acid) and in other cases they do not, like folate. Thats why proponents of methylation enhancement always recommend Metafolin/L-methylfolate.
