Re: Osteomyelitis of Upper Jaw Bone - Treatments ineffective

I got titanium posts placed in preparation for two tooth implants in 2011. Since then, I have had several problems, and I have never had the crowns done because of an infection. It just seemed to get worse. Yesterday, they finally determined I had osteomyelitis. They did a culture last week, and changed my antibiotics a third time, which I have been taking since January 22, 2014.
If this antibiotic doesn't work, they are recommending I have the posts removed. The problem is, the posts have fused into my jawbone since 2011, and are very strong and tight.
The swelling has spread to my cheek, under my chin to my other ear, and across my face to my nose. I have a sore throat and have trouble swallowing.
I still have pain, even though I am now taking oxycontin. Did anything help your pain?
What kind of surgery did you have? Did they scrape the dead bone away? Mine is in my lower right jaw. Thanks
