can you imagine what life is like in the wild, for instance? and what it's like in the old days with our ancestors? they drink water and eat stuffs without any means of access to hygiene, for example, yet how could they manage to survive and not get infected???

You have to consider several things :
-
parasites (helminths) are not trying to kill you, they are trying to eat your food, or your blood, live in your body, lay eggs, and spread their eggs.
-in the past, only the humans with the most resistant constitutions survived, which means that without technology and clean habits maybe you would not be alive today.
-in the past there were less humans and less animals in a specific environment and they traveled locally and slowly, they ate/drank locally, so their bodies and immune system had the time to adapt to the environment and to develop defense mechanisms and weapons against the few local invaders.
Nowadays humans, animals, plants, foods, insects, blood, and consequently
parasites travel from all parts of the world to all others parts of the world, which means that our human bodies are invaded everyday by many kinds of helminths and others harmful organisms.
-In the past the environment was less polluted by substances harmful for our bodies (toxic metals, radioactive substances, petroleum substances, ...)
-Most humans are not aware about helminths, and consequently they try to get rid of the symptoms of a helminths infection not of the cause (the helminths), which means that they will continue to infect the others humans which are in contact with them.
-the hygiene of humans is declining, because of the increasing number of humans who touch the same objects in a small environment, because of pets, because of our way of eating/drinking foods/drinks prepared and served by others humans, because of some unclean sexual practices, because of the protection of harmful insects (mosquitos, taons, spiders, tics, fleas) in some "natural" environments, ...
and i am sure i can find others reasons... Take a look at my previous posts.
