It sounds like you have a septic tank feeding a seepage pit.

Therefore you don't have a septic field.
If this is correct, then the recommended thing to do is to install an aerator into the seepage pit to oxygenate the water, as seen in the last illustration above.

You may have to add sodium percarbonate to your septic pit to get it flowing again, in addition to the aerator. or add 40 gallons of 30% hydrogen peroxide from your pool store.
