Why do you have to use flannel at all?

Hi,

Could someone explain why we have to use flannel? Is it to help draw out toxins? Help keep the area warmer? Just wondering why we can't apply castro oil to the skin, add saram wrap and then heat. Is the material necessary?

Also is the heat to help the castro oil work better and if so how?

I read over and over the instructions on the internet but no one gives a reason why you do it this way.
