Hakala Research results
While for the most part I agree with Dr. Brownstein, I think he needs to rethink his vitamin C approach. The linked to paper recommends 2000+ mg vit C in ester C form taken in the evening and claims ascorbic is ok but may cause stomach upset.
Many orthomolecular docs will actually warn against high dose ester C because of its calcium base. As a matter of fact Dr Thomas Levy just came out with a book called Death by Calcium. Excess calcium (as Brownstien actually notes) can be a big problem, not just with magnesium but the whole body. Osteoperosis is more due to vitamin C deficiency than it is about not enough calcium.
Additionally oral vitamin C (nonliposomal that is) has a short half life and is poorly digested. With that in mind constant frequent doses over the course of the day would serve much better than one large dose in the evening.
Vitamin C is a super anti toxin and about as toxic as water itself I personally agree with folks like Dr levy that one should determine bowel tolerance of ascorbic acid and strive to take that every day. For some it may be 2g and for other 20g, but either way its best dosed throughout the day.
