I don't know whether there is any truth to the fungal concept, but I have pulled as much info as I can from PubMed.gov about research on baking soda and cancer. There are numerous research documents validating the usefulness of oral baking soda (NaHCO(3)) ingestion in inhibiting metastases and prolonging the lives of mice. Specifically a research document done by the University of Arizona in partnership with Wayne State University and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute titled "Bicarbonate Increases Tumor pH and Inhibits Spontaneous Metastases". It seems that Bicarbonate supresses the release of cathepsin B, an important matrix remodeling protease that cancer needs to break down the normal tissues surrounding it.
