I'm not far from giving up Christmas. If my husband said I don't think we should keep it anymore, then I'd say, alright! I think I can safely say he won't ever do that though. But I have christian friends that make a good case for not keeping it.

Christmas isn't biblical. Jesus never hinted at us keeping it. It's a tradition of man with pagan origins, etc. It's also a time of year that causes lots of crime and other bad stuff. There is a lot negative against it.

That said, I don't fault Christians for keeping it and I still do myself. As long as it is kept Christ-centered, there are many good things to say about it. Jesus's birth was one of the most important events of history. Had he not been born, we would not have life in Him, so I understand the great desire to celebrate his birth, even though we all pretty much know he wasn't born on December 25. I just think had it been important for us to celebrate his birth, he would have made that known and he would have made a way for us to know the actual date.

Christmas is part of our tradition though, and there is nothing wrong with having traditions. But there are certain aspects of the Christmas tradition I do think are wrong, such as lying to the kids about Santa Claus and making him the big hero of it all. I also think all the stress and pressure of Christmas, and many going in debt to buy presents, is a very negative aspect of christmas. All these things take away from what the good of it could be, thinking on Christ and what his birth meant for us.

I do really love Christmas music, most of it at least, and I think it's the music that does the most in getting us to dwell on what Christ's birth meant.

And it's always good to get together with family and other loved ones.

Sorry to shock you again, if I did. I'm sure there is more shock to come, but like you said, that's just the way it is with us. :)

Oh and one more thing, because the world is trying to stamp out Christmas, and control what we could even call it if we do keep it, that will do a lot to sway me not to give it up. lol
