eating calcium rich foods can sometimes be worse
I agree that supplementation is nowhere near as effective as it is purported to be.
Another interesting thing to consider is that it has been found that an acidifying diet has more to do with bone loss than age.
Apparently, since the blood is of an alkaline nature, it needs a diet that supports the maintenance of alkalinity. A diet that is high in protein,
Sugar and other "acid forming" foods actually causes more acidity in the system due to heightened hydrochloric acid production, among other things.
So: Say for example you really want to up your calcium levels, so you have tons of milk and cheese and other protein filled, calcium rich foods. The acid goes into the blood, and your body immediately tries to neutralize it, by finding a substance in the body that is alkaline. Calcium is one of the first resources sought, so your bones get leeched.
It makes sense that osteoporosis is a western phenomenon, since the standard american diet is highly acid forming.
