Hyperthyroidism during Pregnancy

Hello,

I need expert opinion for one of my friend. She is a hyperthyroid patient currently on medication. Now she is 5 weeks pregnant and her thyroid level is 8mlU/L. She is now taking tablets to get this under control.

Does having high thyroid in first trimester cause any harm to the mother or the unborn child? Is there a risk that high thyroid level might have caused any harm to baby's brain development? Please suggest if there is any health risk to the mother or the unborn child? In this case, is it advisable to go for abortion? We have consulted with gynecologists and thyroid specialists but got a mixed opinion. Hence I am posting the question in this forum. Please suggest.
