To my knowledge, A.C. Grace's vitamin E products have always been refined from soy. Maybe Schmid was referring to the carrier oil not being soy.
There's actually a few brands that are derived from sunflower oil instead of soy, I've been keeping a list of different pros/cons here: http://www.toxinless.com/vitamin-e
I'm starting to think the concentration of the oil is more important than the source of the vitamin E, except for the soy-sensitive.
