I have this on a regular basis. I have concluded it was from metabolites in mucus secretions, which irritate the anal tissue, and cause particles to be expelled, much the same way a vagina discharges.

The most likely cause of this symptom is a type of yeast or protozoa in elevated numbers causing low level infection\irritation of the bowel. It generally follows there are food sensitivities , some bowel dysregulation, and possibly other areas of the body that are occasionally itchy, like the scalp, or feet.

You may have the classic Sugar cravings, especially at night.

Probiotics are a smart thing to try, but it must be steady.
