I believe Malachi 'got' it all. He however knew that Gen-Pop can't handle the truth.

As for those numbered points:
1. Yes, any real connection can be a trigger for the Dark Side to look back.
2. Not sure about this one, but certainly many are at peace while obsessed. Some are even capable of suppressing the obsession and neutralizing the monsters..

So none of these things weaken us, they simply make us visible to the Dark Side. Which is why Malachi Martin weakened his 'don't do it' policy on his last interview. After all if there weren't real dragon slayers there would be no battle..

What weakens us are the toxins and environmental assaults..
This assault has not reached its cllmax by accident.
