Re: Low DHEAs with very high testosterone, low cort. low Prog & Est..?
I'm reading about it. I know that DHEA can help women with low estrogen and low estrogen can increase testosterone. But I've found something interesting about thyroid and DHEA.
I saw a FS in July and ended up going on 25-50 mg of DHEA (he
recommended 75, but I was slowly increasing it to try to eliminate side
effects). I had some blood work done while taking the 50 mg DHEA and my TSH at that time was 0.79 (normal 0.30- 4.2). Less then a year before that my TSH was 1.1. I
ended up going off of the DHEA after about 3 weeks because I was
growing hair on my chest and had some mild hair loss. I just figured
that this was not a good sign and it might not be the right dose for my
body. I was totally exhausted after I went off DHEA and I never seemed
to recover. So, I recently saw my regular doc and discovered that my TSH went up to 4.5! That is a big jump in only 2 months. Any thoughts on the effect of DHEA on the thyroid? Do you think the
high doses of DHEA messed up the thryoid? Or does DHEA have some
positive effect on hypothyroid? Has anyone else ever taken DHEA? I also
have adrenal fatigue, but don't know how severe it is yet because I am
waiting to get some additional testing done.I thought this was an interesting connection and wanted to share sinse DHEA has been shown to help with fertility.
Ok, well I did some searching and reading
on line and discovered that low DHEA can negatively impact the thyroid.
some people with mild hypo can get thyroid hormones in normal ranges
with DHEA supplementation. Or can decrease the dose of thyroid meds when
also on DHEA. I'm thinking that my natural levels of DHEA may have
dropped really low after stopping the high doses. what do you think?mj
