Identification of Endocrine Disruptors in Algae Blooms

~All body systems~ which are controlled by hormones can really be thrown out of whack by endocrine disruption... I have been so out of whack. Some might say- just whacked! : )

"Scientists are reporting for the first time that previously unrecognized substances released by algae blooms have the potential to act as endocrine disruptors."

A study abstract on estrogenic activities:
The observed estrogenic potencies are important namely in relation to the possible mass expansion of cyanobacteria and release of the active compounds into surrounding water.

Environmental protection agencies may need to update monitoring programs for algae blooms to include potential endocrine-disrupting substances.
