Re: How to cope with depression?
Sorry to hear about you're difficult situation Cody...when i'm in the 'grips' of the hopeless depressive pit you describe, i try to remind myself that all things chang, and this feeling will change.
It's hard to see that and feel it during these times i know, but i KNOW that all things change even if i can't FEEL it at the time.
It's something i thought of when i wasn't feeling depressed and feeling genuine optimism, reminding me that i don't feel despair all the time, and value a lot from life.
Also, it's easy to focus on the
Depression when it does hit, and it becomes a spiral of helplessness, so i try to negate it with doing something to distract the negative thought patterns...things that occupy the mind like reading, watching a movie - i really try to shift my conscious focus.
Or i just sit, breathe, and try to NOT think anything. Focus on breath. I find
Depression quite a 'still' space to be in, so i guess i try to embrace that even more by shifting thought to no thought and rhythmic breathing.
I have a couple of dogs who always adore affection, and i find them therapeutic to be around - grooming them and giving them attention shifts my mind focus from my negative thoughts too.
These are ways i personally cope...i'm not sure how helpful they are to you...but ride that wave and know you'll see the other side of it.
Best regards,
PP
