Re: Questions about Schulze "Superfood"

Here's some info for ya! Also, I've read the concerns you have about the nutritional yeast...but I have my doubts that anything derived from a natural organically grown/harvested plant could cause the worries & damage that the competitor claims. I honestly don't have the knowledge in that area to make a judgement call, but since tens of thousands of people have taken Schulze's SuperFood for decades without any bad effects, I continue to take it daily (and recommend it to others).

Here's the information I have...'hope it helps!

Superfood Ingredients

Spirulina Blue Green Algae

Spirulina is one of the most concentrated, nutritious foods on this planet. It is the highest natural source of complete protein (75%). We use the only organically grown Spirulina in the world, from Hawaii. The high amount of sunshine there makes this Spirulina higher in Beta Carotene than any other. It is also a rich source of B-Vitamins, especially B-12. Grown using water pumped from 2000 feet deep in the ocean, this Spirulina is one of the richest sources of minerals also. Being one of the oldest types of algae, it has a soft cell wall for easy digestion and assimilation.

Chlorella

Chlorella is second only to Spirulina in nutritional content. Another of the algae, it Is an extremely concentrated source of nutrition and compliments Spirulina well. The cell wall has been cracked to make the nutrients more available and increase its digestibility. Alfalfa, Barley And Wheat Grasses These are the Vitamin / Mineral herbs. They are mildly cleansing and the greatest sources of nutrition of any grasses. Grain grasses are more potent than the grains themselves, offering us a rich array of vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll.

Purple Dulse Seaweed

Seaweeds are the richest source of assimilable minerals on the planet. They contain all the minerals and trace minerals that are found In the oceans and the earth's crust. We chose Purple Dulse because it has the highest mineral concentration, but also tastes bland. Many seaweeds taste fishy and can be offensive to vegetarians.

Alfalfa, Barley and Wheat Grasses

These are the Vitamin / Mineral herbs. They are mildly cleansing and the greatest sources of nutrition and minerals of any of the grasses. Grain grasses are more potent than the grains themselves, offering us a rich array of vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll.

Beet Root And Spinach Leaf

Beets and Spinach are some of the richest, most assimilable sources of organic iron. Beets, being a root vegetable and growing underground, change inorganic raw elements into plant minerals, that are useable by us. Spinach is a rich source of Calcium, Iron and Vitamin K. Both of these plants are famous for their blood building ability.

Rose Hips, Orange And Lemon Peels

Revered as the best sources of Vitamin C, these fruits are also a balanced C-Complex source. They contain Bioflavinoids, Rutin, Hesperidin, Calcium and all of the trace elements that are now known to be necessary to assimilate Vitamin C. The citrus peels are also one of the highest sources of Pectin, which has been proven to remove heavy metals (Mercury, Lead, etc.) from the body, even remove radioactive contamination like Strontium 90.

Non-Active Saccharomyces cerevisiae Nutritional Yeast

This yeast is grown on beets and pure molasses. It is the second highest source of complete protein in nature (50%), and the richest source of B Vitamins. It is also a rich source or Iron and many other minerals. The yeast we choose is heated high enough to absolutely destroy any yeast activity, but not high enough to lessen the B Vitamin content. It is totally NON active and safe for patients with Candida Albicans or on yeast free diets.

Superfood is simply a 'green food'. You may have noticed other 'green foods' on the market but these by contrast often contain added supplements and even herbs. These have been deliberately avoided for a number of reasons. It is an 'ordinary' food and stands alone in providing nutrition. The addition of vitamins and other types of supplements and herbs have not been added and therefore interactions will be avoided. This product can therefore be safely taken alongside G.P.'s prescribed medication. Additionally no inadvertent levels of substances banned by regulatory authorities can be implicated. Our deep knowledge of bio-chemistry gives us a real insight into the benefits and safety of a simple green food as opposed to the more complex ones with added supplements and herbs.

Superfood: Chronic and Acute Disease: Although Superfood is a vital food source for people with multiple allergies and chronic disorders for their repair and long term restoration; it must be remembered that it is a highly concentrated food source which has detoxifying elements. Even with the anti-inflammatory and cooling aspects of the foods it contains, caution may still need to be used when first taking it. If you (or your patient) knows that severe gut intolerances exist or severe bowel (e.g. bleeding) allergies or reaction are present then due care and caution must be used. Samples can be obtained by practitioners for their patients and customers can likewise sample the superfood prior to purchasing a tub. Try ½ teaspoon and build up in increments of ½ teaspoons while observing any reactions.
What exactly are these vitamins, minerals and trace elements?

Vitamin A is necessary for normal cell division and all bone development and growth. It helps maintain the mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive and urinary tracts. It is vital for maintaining a healthy immune system, for healthy skin and for good eyesight. It is also important for embryonic development and the development of sex hormones.

Vitamin B1 converts carbohydrates and fats into energy. It also helps prevent the build ups of toxic byproducts of metabolism in the body. It assists in the normal functioning of the nervous system, muscles and heart and more generalised normal development and growth. Helpful for 'low energy' times and to improve mental alertness.

Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) is required to release energy from food and for the functioning of vitamin B6 and B3. It has many of the attributes of B1.

Vitamin B3 (Niacin) is involved in the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. It assists in times of stress and generally supports the nervous system. It is helpful for ringing in the ears and associated dizziness; also for diabetes and hyperthyroidism.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxal) helps to release energy from proteins. It is also important for immune function, the nervous system and the formation of red blood cells.

Vitamin B12 is vital for making DNA, RNA and is vital for myelin sheath production, this insulates nerves and keeps the nervous system calm and balanced. It is also needed for cell division. It is needed for red cell production (oxygen carrying system) and energy production. Superfood is particularly rich in B12, so vital for vegans and vegetarians who don't have meat sources.

Vitamin C is vital for the production of collagen - needed for healthy skin, bones, cartilage, teeth and gums, and which helps heal wounds and burns. It also helps to produce the neurotransmitters noradrenaline, which regulate blood flow and serotonin which helps promote sleep and buffer stress. It assists in the maintenance of veins, capillaries and connective tissue integrity. The flavonoid (antioxidant) rich quality of this Superfood vitamin C helps to combat some unwanted allergy responses to include tissue sensitivity.

Zinc is present in all tissues of the body. It is necessary for maintaining and replicating genetic material (DNA and RNA). It is needed for the efficient function of the immune system and is vital for normal growth of the body and sex/hormones especially the prostate.

Iron is needed to produce haemoglobin which carries oxygen around the body via the bloodstream. It is needed to help metabolise B vitamins and aids hydrochloric acid production.

Iodine is needed to make thyroid hormones which govern the rate and efficiency at which food is converted into energy, and regulate physical and mental development.
Other Nutritional Components of Superfood

Vitamin D is needed to absorb calcium and phosphorous and is thus vital to healthy bone structure and good teeth.

Vitamin E prevents, repairs and neutralises damage caused by oxidation to polyunsaturated fatty acids found in all membranes. Increases HDL's (High Density Lipoproteins) and oxygen, vital to circulatory and heart health. Strengthens the immune system by promoting white cell production. Vital for proper functioning of sex organs.

Vitamin F (Essential Fatty Acids) is important for cell and organ respiration. It also adds resiliency and lubrication to the tissues.

Vitamin K is vital in forming the glycoproteins needed for normal blood clotting. It is also used to make other proteins needed for healthy bones ad tissues.

Vitamin P (Bioflavonoids) improves the effectiveness of vitamin C. It also serves as an anti-inflammatory agent. It is a powerful immune activator, disarming virus, bacteria and fungus.

Folic Acid is required for cell division and the formation of DNA, RNA and proteins in the body. It is vitally required prior to and during pregnancy. It aids proper nervous system function and helps regulate histamine levels in the body (allergies).

Choline helps the utilisation of fats in the body. It is also directly involved in brain chemical metabolism. It is referred to as the 'memory' vitamin as it is an important part of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.

Biotin helps make fatty acids. It also helps incorporate amino acids into protein and aids the formation of DNA and RNA.

Inositol helps to emulsify fats.

Panthothenic acid helps to release energy from food and is essential to the synthesis of cholesterol, fat and red blood cells.

Para-aminobenzoic acid nourishes the hair and is vital as a natural sunscreen.

Boran helps to maintain calcium balance.

Calcium is a vital component of bones and teeth which contains 99% of the body's total calcium. The remaining 1% helps cell structure and function, as well as in the blood where it aids clotting.

Chromium increases the effectiveness of insulin by stimulating glucose uptake in cells. It also helps to control levels of fat and cholesterol. Very important for hypoglycaemics and diabetics.

Cobalt is stored in red blood cells and the plasma (also the liver, kidneys, spleen and pancreas) and is an integral part of the vitamin B12.

Copper helps to protect against free radical damage. It also helps forms connective tissue. Copper is important for the growth of bones and helps the body absorb iron.

Selenium is needed for healthy liver and heart function and the maintenance of eyes, skin and hair. It has an antioxidant function helping to protect cell membranes and intracellular structural membranes from breakdown. It also assists in hormone balance.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid) Often known the anti-stress vitamin it is vital for healthy nervous system and adrenal glands. It is used to mediate fat metabolism and for the detoxification of drugs. For immune support - it helps create antibodies. Some people experience facial flushing after drinking Superfood which is the B5. This is not at all serious and is simply bringing circulation to the face. It should dissipate over 30 minutes or so; to avoid this flushing, drink Superfood slowly over a period of time.

Beta Carotene Helps improve vision and eyesight. Can reduce effect of aging and improve skin colour and tone. Beta carotene is non-toxic because the body itself converts it to vitamin A as and when required. It assists immune activity and the cardiovascular system. It is a powerful free radical scavenger.
