Re: Quick Question For You Guys

Hi there,

Clicking jaw joints is generally a sign that you have TMJ, temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction. Your jaw join could be ever so slightly popping in and out of the socket whenever you open and close your mouth. In many cases, jaw clicking can cause headaches, and in fact most patients think they are 'tension" headaches, when in fact they are not. The most common cause for your problem is a bad bite, usually over-closure of the jaw.

You could see a dentist who knows how to treat, and I know an excellent guy here in New Zealand, there will be bound to be somebody in your area who can treat TMJ.
A temporary solution is to be fitted with a splint (mouthguard).

These "clicking" sounds are quite common, and there are many reasons for TMY, but stress and tension are some of the most common. Sometimes the jaw can become malaligned due to a fall or blow to the head.
