Permanent Retainer: Bad?

I have a permanent retainer on the inside of my bottom six front teeth. I've had it there for ten years and I was curious if it could have a negative affect on my body, cause health issues, things of that nature. I can honestly say that I've struggled with my health for about that long as well which includes candida overgrowth, hypothyroidism, chronic fatigue, chronic sinusitis, poor immune system, hormonal imbalance, and Depression (these are the main problems). I've always hated it and know that it leaves a metallic taste in my mouth on occasion. I was actually just recently taking Lugol's Iodine orally and discovered it was staining the back of my teeth right where and only where the retainer sits. I can only assume it has some kind of magnetic properties?

Should I just get it removed and see if it helps the way I feel? Could I be allergic? Could I have metal toxicity? I have an invisalign retainer that should do the job without it.
