Re: A different opinion as to how to conduct a fast
I think this is the Dr you are referring to: Dr Andrew Kruger...........
http://www.fastingconnection.com/forum/5-step-detox
He claims that the main organ of elimination during a fast is the skin, but any Hygienic Doctor would tell you that this is the Liver and the kidneys, and NOT the skin.
When toxins are released into the bloodstream during a fast from adipose tissue and other deposits, the organs that deal with them directly are the kidneys (which filter the blood) and the Liver which is the main organ of detoxification.
The skin only deals with the overload if these two organs are unable to cope.
I wouldn't lay too much credence into this, although he would obviously have other advice worthy of merit.
Commonsense alone should tell anyone that a fast is a physiological rest, which attempts to recuperate/conserve energy, whilst simultaneously diverting all of the available bodily energies (and esp' digestive energy) into healing and cleansing. The body will therefore demand physical/mental and emotional rest for the max' benefits, rather than dissipate them as he claims on his 5 step detox plan.
