hep c newbie

A friend of mine who did iv drugs about 38 years ago has just been diagnosed with hep C. Liver function is off according to blood work . Next step is a ct scan and I presume more blood work and or a biopsy. What is the standard course of treatment and what should they expect from an internist etc. They are not interested in alternative treatment ( I have suggested it) Any info would be helpful. Thanks
