Security Tests for the Technical Savvy

Test if your Plug N Play is Vulnerable.
The Universal Plug N' Play (UPnP) system operates over two ports: UDP/1900 and TCP/5000. Shields UP will test the ports to see if they are open to attack.

Test if your Banking or Shopping Website has the proper Security Protocols in place. In the first column at the bottom, enter the website name. If you get a grade of F, contact the website administrator of the site you are testing. The grading system is very strict.

There are over 1.2 million devices that are vulnerable to attack because port 23 is open and many people are unaware they are connected to the internet. Also, many people do not change the default passwords. With this flaw, hackers can take over your routers, network, computer and appliances. The good news is the vulnerability is on IP4 devices and the IP6 devices will not be affected.

How do we know these devices are vulnerable? An anonymous man scanned the entire internet by creating a worm bot that replicated itself to access the devices over a 6 month period. He was also able to login to the devices. You can read all about his project in the link below. The solution? Turn off telnet port 23!
