Re: MR and MRS DUCK are at "MY TEACHERS"
I guess I will gracefully withdraw and leave it to the experts. sigh
It is wonderful to hear that Duck is experiencing parenting. I hope that
they can have many seasons together.
You would probably appreciate this MH. I used to work at the wildlife society and we had offices in a beautiful park with a pond. The building was surrounded by huge trees and although suburban had much wildlife.
One year a female eagle owl decided to nest on the flat roof of our building. They are large and quite protective of the nest so we had to stay off the roof to let her do her motherly thing. We would then ring her offspring and at great risk for she would come talons out attacking us. anyway sadly her mate did not show up year three and she failed to come the following year. So some Egyptian Geese took over her nest.
Once the babies were old enough we wondered what she would do to get them to feed.
It was really incredible!
one day we heard her making alot of squaking noise and lots of fluttering. the next thing, here comes this tiny little yellow fluffball out the drainpipe of the building.
She had shewed them all down the downspout and they would come zooming down the slide and plop out in the gutter, About 15 of them!!!! we were stunned and amazed. where after making sure that every last one was off the roof she would fly down and lead them to the pond, which was on the far side of the grounds. They would then remain on the waters edge till old enough to head on their own.
She did this several years until our eagle owl returned with a new mate. He would not let us on the roof at all.
But we got to share in their lives and it was a huge thrill.
talk about being adaptable.
What a clever goose!!!
