I think the most important distinction from the audio file was that of possessed vs obsessed (influenced or controlled by a powerful force).

If I got that right Dr. Martin defines possession as willing or unwilling loss of willpower to an entity. This is huge because at least symbolically all military and paramilitary organizations take your will and replace it with orders..

..and we all know what he meant by the quickening at this point..
