This same thing happened to me about 3 months ago. I was partially grossed out by the thoughts of catching it, and partially sympathetic to her (she's 83!), so I went home at lunch and made tea with ginger, honey and lemon, and put it in a thermos, and gave it to my co-worker. She was thrilled to have it, and it quieted her cough. She drank it all afternoon - the thermos held about 4 cups or so. I made the tea the next day and the day after that. I can't tell you how thrilled she was to have the tea, which of course she could have made herself, but never would. Her cough went away, and she brought me in the biggest apple I've ever seen, so it was a great trade off.
