Very sorry to hear about your Father and the problems he´s having with his knee and mobility.
Was hoping someone with more "professional" knowledge would show up and give you some type of advice.
Since no one has, will say what I would do... if it were me. But before doing so, would suggest you re-post in the excellent Forum "natural healing and herbal solutions with Unyquity. You are sure to get some proper help there.

I´d start off with resting the leg and knee as much as possible, preferably on a stool so that the knee and leg are straigt when sitting. It seems like he has been "forced" to do this because of the pain. Someone I knew who had torn ligaments around the knee had to put on a cast so there was no "movement" whatsoever in this area.

Then there is this homeopathic salbe/ ointment that is quite amazing, and even if "they" say temporary relief, its better than excruciating pain. I find it provides more than temp. relief but then I have not had something as severe as this.

Because I´m very fond of Arnica... there are also tablets that I would recommend taking. Here in Spain they are called Arnica Cpto. from the Laboratorios Biotica and has a number of excellent ingredients together with the Arnica working together to heal.

also look around for NDs doing Reconnective Therapy that is a form of energy healing and VERY EFFECTIVE.
